First, I'd like to relay a big Thank You to Bren, who invited me to join!

Looks like a fun forum.  Some of you know me as an Admin from Yesfans.com...  Happy to just be one of the bunch here!  I also notice many of my friends from 'The Land Downunder' are here

G'day  Mates!  ...as well as other friends from around the globe.

Well, a bit about me I guess...  My greatest passion in life is music, my own, as well as that of others.  Some here will know me from the Yesfans website, and indeed, I do have a great
love for Progressive Rock.  I discovered Bands like YES, ELP, Focus and King Crimson when I was a young Turk.  As I age, I realize how lucky I was to have found a genre with such high standards.  If I had been raised on heavy metal exclusively, perhaps my life would be simpler!  Although, simple isn't neccessarily better, not by a long-shot.

I love many genres, but tend to get bored quickly if there aren't layers of depth to plumb in any given thing, and so, the progressive heft!

Strange though, my own musical style probably fits closer to bands like The Grateful Dead, Joni Mithell, Bob Dylan...  I think it's the complexity of the lyric, and the Americana element that drew me to that style.  I have to cull from that which is at hand, so as an American, I naturally fell into that sort of style, though, hopefully the high standards of Prog guide me in my own musicality!  I'm also a Classical Music affecianado, loving the 5 'Bs' (Bach, Beethoven, Bartok, Beatles & Brahms).

I'm an older bloke, ...turned 52 last May (!).  Am married to my lovely erudite Wife, Lisa (Also known on Yesfans, under the site-name of 'mmmYES!', which Lisa culled from the lyric of a Kate Bush song!).

I'm a heavy reader, a proverbial 'Book Person', as Ray Bradbury named us in his great novel, Farenheit 541.  I always seem to have at least one novel or Bio that I'm reading.  My guilty pleasure is 'good' Science Fiction (being the 'Fiction Of Ideas' that it is, and 'The most escapist of all literatures', as quoted from CS Lewis).
Favorite authors of all stripes would be, in no particular order: John Steinbeck,Tolstoy, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C Clarke, Franz Kafka, Hunter S
Thompson, Edward Abbey ( not to be confused with Albee!), Dylan Thomas,
Poe, F. Scott Fitzgerald.  Lately I've discovered the great contemporary SF author, Allen M Steele, who's Coyote novels are up there with the greats of the golden age!  Love it.

Let's see, I'm something of a lapsed Presbyterian, but still hold to the good and humanistic elements of that particular religious sect.  I threw-out a lot of bathwater, but didn't quite toss the baby out the window!

Why am I here?  In the greater philosophical sense of the Grand Question, we can hammer away at THAT in the forum itself.  As to why I am here on Eunoia: It looks like a great place to make new friends, jabber and talk with old friends, have fun 'friendly' thought provoking arguments and discussions...  But ultimately, Bren invited me, and so I joined.  One smart cookie, Bren!

That's it for now.  I'm looking forward to hanging-out with you all!

Multiple Hugs All Around (Yeah, we native Californians tend to hug quite a bit!),
Earl Grey

Hey EG,

Glad you took up the cudgels and made it across mate!

You'll find many current and former YF'ers here - and whilst that band is a sometime recurring theme here, there is plenty else to keep us occupied - mainly in honest debate and the comedy which results in just about everything else in life.

Like the song says, "look around, choose your own ground". Tuck into existing threads and feel free to start your own - we're a semi-kleptocratic anarchic commune in that we steal freely from everywhere and produce original material by the ton, so add to it where you fancy.

Welcome aboard :) Big Grin

Thanks Bren!

Looks like a blast!

I'll come-up with a better Avater once I get on my MAC at home, but am limited in choices, as I'm posting from work on my iPad!  :)

Thanks again!  I'll be a little less, er, restrained here than on 'the other site',  So now folks can see me when I'm not in Yesmode!  Should be a GasGasGas!

:)

No sweat mate - let me know if you need any help with you avatar - as you'll perhaps have seen, we try and maintain avatars and signatures to a minimum here so that your words/posts are the main focus of attention - helps prevent any rabid fanboy activity

And you make an interesting point regarding seeing you for you and not as a Mod: the moderation here is - thankfully - minimal; and that's not because we can't be bothered, it's just simply not needed: there have only ever been two bannings here (CJ and Bernie) and that's because they set out to piss people off. They knew how that would end and duly received their rewards.

There are no language restrictions here - you speak your mind as you see fit, on any topic - you [we all] take criticism from others as they see fit to give it. As you'll appreciate, it makes for lively and honest debate.

Look forward to seeing you get in amongst it!

Sure Is Louise!

Great to see ya Mate!

Lisa and I went on a wine tasting trip up north for. Couple of days, and we found a winery owned and run by an Aussie family, Excellent Wine (Reminded me of our trip to Hunter Valley), so, of course I had to join their wine club!  Brought back 10 bottles, with a shipment of Shiraz next month!

...Thought of you guys!  They have Aussie-style Barbeques there, Prawns on the Barbie!

Good to see you here Lulu!
